On the early morning of April 15, 2017, a civilian passing through the Chester Le neighbourhood, in Scarborough, found a young man lying in a parking lot by a school bus. The victim, 24-year-old Samatar Omar Farah, suffered fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Farah had no criminal history and no connection to his attackers. He was an innocent victim; he was shot and killed while peacefully sitting outside. A student and athlete at George Brown College, Farah was a rising basketball star. He lived at 150 Chester Le Boulevard with his mother and sister. He was described by friends and relatives as happy, genuine and kind-hearted, as well as a devoted son, brother, uncle, friend and partner.
The police investigation revealed that the shooting was probably the result of an ongoing feud between residents of two housing complexes. The Toronto Police Service identified several persons as being responsible for the murder of Samatar, including Alexander Fountain who is still at large.
Alexander Fountain is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for three counts of attempted murder and one count of first-degree murder. Fountain was previously found guilty of unauthorized possession of a loaded firearm. Fountain has evaded his arrest and is believed to be in the Greater Toronto Area.
Anyone offering Fountain assistance in evading arrest may be considered an accessory after the fact. Section 240 of the Criminal Code of Canada states that “every one who is an accessory after the fact to murder is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for life."
