ROSALEEN MARY WALLACE
WANTED FOR MANSLAUGHTER
Manslaughter, Toronto, 1987
During the night of February 17, 1987, the Toronto Police Service responded to an emergency call on Lake Shore Boulevard, near Park Lawn Road, in Mimico. Peter Wallace, a 5-year-old boy, was found inside an apartment suffering from medical trauma. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died at the hospital shortly after arrival.
Peter had been suffering from Hirschsprung's Disease, a treatable congenital condition. The investigation revealed that Peter had gone untreated for his disease during the six months leading to his death. His belly was swollen to such a size that he was probably unable to eat or breathe.
His parents, Rosaleen and Archie Wallace, failed to seek proper medical attention for Peter. Given the gravity of the case, prosecutors charged both of his parents with manslaughter instead of failure to provide the necessaries of life. Peter’s father was arrested two months after his son’s death and served four years in prison for the crime.
Rosaleen Mary Wallace disappeared prior to the charges being laid and to date has not been found. She is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for manslaughter.
Wallace is known to have nine aliases such as Rosemarie Fader and Joanne Demitro. She would now be 62 years old. It is believed she is still living in the Greater Toronto Area under one of these aliases.
Anyone offering Wallace assistance in evading arrest may be considered an accessory after the fact and face charges.
